You probably already know this, but cats are strange, strange creatures. I was able to witness some seemingly strange behavior that apparently is perfectly normal for cats.
One time, when I was up working past 3 AM, this cat slinks around the corner, past me and into the kitchen. You see – this was the night before Thanksgiving, and almost everyone had gone to bed dead tired from making all the pies and other delicious food. Of course, I was in the middle of a project and had lost track of time. Before too long I heard the rattlings of the cat noise alarm (some pots and pans strategically placed), which had been set up to alert us to the fact that the cat was trying to steal a bite of pie.

I got up and stared the cat down. With his glowing, condescending eyes the cat stared back. Then he jumped off the kitchen counter and strutted out of the room. I zoned in on my work and the cat came back 5 minutes later to try again. The third time this happened I chased the cat out of the kitchen.

Thirty minutes pass and I got the feeling that it had become too quiet. I check the kitchen – no cat. I check the podcast studio I was working in, no cat. I shrug my shoulders and went back to work. No sooner than I sat down, the cat jumped out from shadows in the adjacent TV room and ran across the room at a terrifying speed. He paused just briefly before crashing into the side of the entertainment center, doing a roll and speeding away into the shadows in another direction. This repeated every four or five minutes.
Eventually, the sounds of a cat training for battle ceased and the weary cat walked in, sat down on the couch next to me, yawned, curled up into a ball and fell asleep. Cats are strange, strange creatures.
